Abstract
Estimating parameters is not always easy due to the nature of statistical distributions. In particular, estimating the parameters of the Birnbaum-Saunders distribution is fraught with difficulties using different methods. This paper introduces different methods for estimating the parameters of the Birnbaum-Saunders distribution. Estimating the parameters of this wear life model is possible in four ways. The first method is a graphical method, which is a simple graphical technique based on the probability diagram and works well for estimating parameters and examining the goodness of fit of wear failure times. This paper also studies maximum likelihood estimators and adjusted moment estimators. Another method is estimating parameters using the jackknife method, which is more suitable for small sample sizes. Finally, the performance of these estimators is studied and compared using Monte Carlo simulation.
