Abstract
This paper is a study of the joint importance measure, JRI, of components in integrated systems of k out of n with independent components. JRI is the rate of improvement in system reliability due to the improvement in the reliability of two or more components. The sign and value of JRI indicate the type and extent of the interaction of components in terms of system reliability. However, in certain cases, the sign of JRI can be determined without calculation. This measure is used in determining the priority of components for preventive maintenance of systems and in determining the level of redundancy of k out of n systems.
