Abstract
WinBUGS is a popular software in computational Bayesian statistics that can be used to easily fit Bayesian models to data.
Although mathematical functions and well-known statistical distributions are defined in this software, sometimes it is necessary to include other functions and distributions in the calculations.
This is done with some tricks and indirectly. Using the WinBUGS development tool called WBDev, new mathematical functions and distributions can be added to this software and used directly. This makes writing model codes easier and calculations faster and more efficient.
In this article, the method and steps for defining new functions and distributions are described with examples.
